Abstract

As healthcare delivery models evolve, nurses are increasingly exploring diverse career pathways, including opportunities in dental assisting. This article examines the transition of nurses into the dental assisting profession, highlighting the unique skills and perspectives they bring to dental healthcare teams. With their clinical expertise and patient-centric approach, nurses can contribute to efficient practice operations and quality patient care in dental settings. However, this career shift necessitates additional training and credentialing to adapt to the specific requirements of dental assisting. By leveraging their nursing background and acquiring specialized dental knowledge, nurses can expand their horizons and play a vital role in enhancing the accessibility and quality of dental care. The article discusses the educational framework, credentialing pathways, and potential challenges nurses may face in this transition, while also exploring the professional growth and interprofessional collaboration opportunities that await in the dental assisting field.
