Abstract

Due to greater understanding, awareness brought on by higher education and societal initiatives, people's attitudes toward intellectually challenged persons have improved, earning them the new modern term "Special Children." Many times, people with certain disabilities are not considered to be full members of society. The continuous categorization and exclusion of socially inferior individuals, such as those with disabilities, is seen to be combated through person-cantered planning and practises, which promote an emphasis on the individual as a person with capacities, gifts, and support needs. The researchers want to gauge the parents' understanding of mental impairment and the socioeconomic and psychological issues they deal with.
