Discourse And Communication: A Comparative Study

Abstract

In this paper, the authors provide their perspective on the field of Communication's approach to discourse analysis. Communication encompasses various aspects, including the exchange of information between individuals and institutions, the building and sometimes breaking of relationships, problem-solving in diverse societies, an intellectual issue studied by scholars from different disciplines, and the academic discipline itself. The authors acknowledge that their viewpoint represents an individual perspective within a diverse and sometimes conflicting field. They begin by providing background information on the field of Communication and its connection to discourse with an emphasis on the field of academics. In conclusion, the author identifies the intellectual characteristics that give discourse studies conducted by communication scholars a sense of shared identity. This suggests that despite the diversity within the field, there are common features that unite discourse studies within Communication.
