Abstract

Recent years have seen the development of new health information technology tools, such as Clinical Decision Support (CDS) systems, which are any digital tools created to assist medical professionals in making clinical decisions. The study's objectives were to demonstrate the San Juan de Alicante Clinical Laboratory's adoption of a CDS system and to make it easier for other clinical laboratories to follow our protocol. We are driven to enhance healthcare tools by our user experience. Our motto for many years has been the improvement, measurement, and monitoring of laboratory tests and interventions.

A study that was descriptive was carried out. The following are the phases of the project's design: 1. Form a multidisciplinary team. 2. Examine the patient information. 3. Extract pertinent information from primary sources. 4. Create the most likely results. 5. Specify a scenario for full integration. 6. Track and observe the effects. Two new software systems were installed in our lab to set up this protocol: AlinIQ AIP Integrated Platform v1.6, which is a business intelligence (BI) tool, and AlinIQ CDS v8.2 as a rule engine.

Outcomes: Our protocol provides examples of KPIs and their results, as well as the workflow and actions that can be performed with a CDS system and how it can be integrated with other monitoring systems.

In conclusion: In order to maximize the use of laboratory tests, enhance the clinical utility of results for physicians, and enhance the integration of care, clinical laboratories may find that CDS is a valuable strategic asset.
