Problem Faced By Cardamom Farmers In Tamil Nadu With Reference To Theni District

Abstract
The extreme weather event had severely affected the district causing much damage to agriculture. To study the constraints faced by the farmers in post flood scenario, a survey was conducted among the cardamom farmers of Theni. The study was based on the primary data collected from 225 cardamom farmers each from five taluks of Theni district. The major constraints in production, marketing and adaptation were ranked by the farmers and analyzed using Garrett’s ranking technique. Important findings of this study, Finance” was ranked first by the selected sample respondents with the total score of 10431 and mean score of 69.54 7. “High price fluctuation” was ranked second with the total score of 9225 and mean score of 61.5. “High marketing cost and Inadequate quantity of market” occupied third and fourth position with the total score of 8594 and 7516 and mean score of 57.29 and 50.11 respectively. Conclude this study, Constructive suggestions for rejuvenation and recouping of the hitherto deteriorating cardamom industry have been enlisted here and the same may be followed to make the industry usher in with fresh vigour and former glory.
