Abstract

Punjab, India, is increasingly at risk for both public health and security due to cross-border drug trafficking. A mixed-methods strategy is used in this study to fully analyze the problem. Quantitative data shows that various age groups are affected differently, with those in the 26–35 age range being the most impacted. Economic gain appears as the main driver, highlighting the need of comprehensive strategy. Community policing is cited as a law enforcement strategy that is very successful, and resource limitations are mentioned as having an impact on anti-trafficking efforts. Public health measures, improved border security, resource allocation for law enforcement, community engagement promotion, program expansion for rehabilitation, and international collaboration are all included in evidence-based policy proposals. This study provides policymakers and other stakeholders with information and a strategy for successfully combating drug trafficking in Punjab while preserving public safety and health.
